Rice Lake Apr 27
« on: April 28, 2006, 02:19:15 PM »

Snuck out early to the recently stocked lake  ??? Like Brohm lake, they didn't seem to be biting. I did see some little cruisers close to shore, but the powerbait was quiet for 2 hours. Kids had fun collecting tadpoles, and we did manage to capture a little rainbow that was swimming on his side. Right ventral fin was missing, so around and around he went.

Maybe they stuff them full of food before they release them as to give them some time to cope with catching their own food. I don't know, but it was sure nice and quiet.

Is powerbait the best thing to use at Rice? Or could you use spoons, spinners, flys etc.?

Headshake, maybe a protest at the hatchery should be organized to express our frustration? ;)

For Rice Lake, we've done well on shrimp, dew worm, spinners...

Personally I haven't had much luck with the power bait at Rice lake, what works for me is small garden worms. Dew worms will work but I think the smaller worms are better, I use small hooks and thread a small piece of the worm on the hook as if you were putting on a sock, usually fish two or so  feet under a float, on sunny days you may want to try deeper.

today they seemed to be taking to spinners, especially ones that involved the color pink, also a brass spoon that I would have used for coho. quite a few fish on their sides, one guy said he caught two by hand, seemed quite proud???

if it's not illegal, it's certainly immoral, and not something of which you'd be proud! what's really funny, or maybe just bad, is that he actually hinted that one of the fish was dead and just barely floating. He had no hesitation in showing me the fish, and they had both been gutted, ready for some good eatin', do I hear banjoes???

I was at buntzen the other day. Landed 10 in 2 hours. I think the reason for a high catch was because they stalked it a few days before :)
