Saltspring Saint Mary's Lake
« on: May 16, 2006, 12:15:06 PM »

Just a note , I was talking to my brother on the island and he informed me that the algae bloom in
Staint Mary's is worse that three weeks ago. Just thought I would let people know if they were heading over for the long weekend.

Well, I just walked down to the lake to check, and it is clearer than it has been anytime during the past 18 days.  I caught a bunch of bass on the surface last night at sunset, using a floating line.

Seems to me a lot of that algae organized itself into little clumps two days ago and then settled out or something.  Anyway, right now the lake is relatively clear.  If you want clearer water, you might try Cusheon, Westin, or Stowell.

I just got through (at 8:15 pm) catching 66 fish in 2 and a quarter hours.  The lake is pretty clear, the fishing is good.
