Arrived at the lake around noon with only one thing in mind, catching my first trout on the fly. About a year ago the decision was made to take up flyfishing and since then I have spent $1000 or more on rods reels lines flys ect. having to put up with alot of ridicule and jokes from my girlfriend and coworkers about how I have so much fly gear and never caught a fish I was determined to get the first fish under my belt. Trolled the far end of the lake and within a short while had my first strike on the flyrod, but was unable to connect. Took a break from rowing and threw spinners, in minutes I landed two fish in the 12" range. Went back to the campsite for a quick lunch and to strategize a bit then raced back to the lake, when we got back the fish were active everywhere and I decided to troll through a section where lots where jumping, while pulling in the flyline to check for weeds I felt a sudden jerk jerk! set the hook, and the battle was on
after a short battle and one scary moment with a circling eagle I had landed my first rainbow on the fly. Caught two others on the fly and missed numerous bites. Was a great day and a great experience that Im gonna remember for a while, and one of the best parts is the fish were caught on a fly I tied up myself, a woolly bugger with an olive body. A friend saw this fly in my box and suggested it would work well, he was right! "thanks for the tips Roy"
