annual fishing trip - watch lake
« on: June 06, 2006, 10:32:15 PM »

went up for our annual trip in the 70-90 mile region. this year we were at watch lake and it just happens that there was a fishing derby going on as well on this lake.

out of 15 guys we hooked around 40 fish. the largest one being 7lbs10oz on a #12 chironomid fished on a sinking line brought up from the bottom. the next biggest was 2lbs2oz followed by the rest being in the 1lb4oz-1lb15oz.

some great action mostly trolling flies. the productive flies were doc spratleys, dragon fly nymphs, gold bead headed leaches, micro leeches.

its too bad our buddy didn't enter the resort derby because he would have won $600 dollars instead of just the $100 dollars for our own derby.

good times and if i get a picture of the big one i will post it.

How deep was the water you were fishing? I find that the sinking line method doesn't work very well in less than about twenty feet.
