Langara Island, Q.C.I. early June
« on: June 07, 2006, 09:35:30 AM »

I Just got back home from a few days in the Queen Charlotte Islands, I was at the Langara Island Lodge.
I was quite pleased to see the fishing had improved fromthe week before (from what the residents and Lodge staff reported)
First coho this year....already!  lol  It weighed in at 5lbs. on the scale at the dock.
Nice 22 Lb. spring, not huge but a nice fish none the less, released a little spring caught right after.....about 10 - 12 lbs.
Then when there was only a couple hours of fishing left, I decided I would like to try for some halibut.  Susanna caught 2, again nothing huge, but very tasty, nice eating fish.  I didn't manage to get any halibut myself, but I did leave satisfied with what I did haul up out of the deep waters......first, I hooked into something that felt more like an anchor then anything else, after several minutes pulling up and reeling down (repeatidly), I finally got it to the surface and was quite surprised to find that all this time I was pulling a skate up.  After getting the skate off the hook and resting for 5 - 10 minutes to let my arm regain some strength, I let my line out again for another try at the halibut.
Again got something pulling fairly hard on the line, so again I start reeling in.....upon getting it to the surface, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had caught a 19Lb. Lingcod

Nice fish!  How many days were you fishing?  How many hours do you fish per day?  Thanks.

Hey dude. Sorry to hear that you didn't have a better trip with a few dozen springs hooked. Usually in early June for numbers, you'd be hooking a lot more than you did.

I know you would have had plenty of pampering at Langara Island Lodge..and glad you had fun! :) :)

Hi Rivan, glad you had a good time. Like you said, fishing has been slow up there, that was what steelhead king has been reporting everytime we talked. Did you talk to him up there? Not easy to miss him ;D , Chinese, kind of big, with a voice that can be heard 5 miles away from the lodge. ;D

Sorry guys for the long dely without any reply....I just got back home from hollidays (visiting with family) @ Shuswap Lake (North Shuswap)
The fishing was a bit slow on the lake while I was there, or I just suck at it  lol
But tubing on the lake was a blast....every one had a good time out there. :D
I Don't think I met Steelhead King while I was @ the Langara Island Lodge....I was brought up there to do some work on the new Lodge they were building, had a days fishing negociated into the deal  ;D .....and what a sweet deal that turned out to be  :o
Our guide was a girl named Chrissy, she was an awesome guide.  Every time we got to a new spot, by the time she was letting out the 2nd line.......fish-on with the first rod set out.  She was an absolutely great guide, I reccomomend her to guide anyone that plans on going (that is if you can request a specific guide)  I dont know the rules about that there.....I think the guides get scheduled according to senority.

Just to give the latest update on the spring, we thought it was going to be good, but it wasn't.....it turned out effing awesome (my whole family thought it was the best BBQ salmon they ever had) mmmmm :P

Hope you all had tight lines while I was out and about visiting with family and not catching anything :-[....I did get a lot of bites though (stupid mosquitos)

I left my gear @ home, thought it would be best to let them supply the gear and keep mine away from the salt ;)
