Going for Chinook Number 2, Let The Bell Toll
« on: June 28, 2006, 06:31:44 PM »

Just got back from checking the water at Island 22 and pick up my $30 launching fee pass.Things look excellent for my first bar fishing trip trip tomorrow to land my second blunt nosed chinook of the new season. I had picked up a small fish, 7 pounds two weeks ago short floating so now eager to hear the tolling of a bell once again

Besides if BS got one yesterday the river must be full of them. ;D ;D ;D

Glad he was fishing Canuck Bar, ;D wherever that is and he is keeping away from Maple Leaf Bar as once you make a cast there you have converted to the team that is rolling, rolling, rolling right along  ;D ;D ;D after making the best trade of the year so far.

While at the  launch today talked to a couple of regular, they said things were slow today where they were towing ;D. They said they have seen only one sockeye caught this way so far.

Earlier in the day I talked to a FOC officier and they have been given orders to monitor the BB' cers closely to see how many sockeye are being caught. He also said there is supposed to be no FN fishery until July 15 unless a ceremonial license is issued. This fishery is supposed to be heavily monitored as well. Must check the web site to see if this is true as I had been told earlier they were allowed to use a 8 inch mesh to target chinook during this time period.

Until tomorrow then, when I hope to be able to once again write The Journal on how my bell tolled so loud they could hear it from the Canuck Bar. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I wish you luck Chris!!  But I think that you would be hard pressed to beat 36 lbs!!!  I don't even know if you could lift that much weight!! ;D ;D ;D  Anyhow, good luck!!  We tried to get up there today and our nice boat ride turned into way to many scary minutes as we came up on the mouth of the Veddar!!  :o For some reason, it was REALLY turbulent and choppy, not to mention raging!! ???  There was also a really apparent muddy water line that I got some picks of.  If I can get the pics of the day on here in a couple I will post them up for you!! ;)  Was some scary moments!!  SO after a beer and a smoke to calm down we headed back down river and did some sturgeon fishing!!  Got skunked there as well!!  Plenty of hits, just nothing stuck!! :D

Yes that area can get very nasty especially when you get a prevailing West wind hitting into the down river current as you would have encountered today. We have had to turn back a few times when heading towards Dewdney.

The area around Island 22 can get bad also. Once we could not get back from the bar until the wind died down at dark. Of course that was in the days we travelled in 12 foot bath tubs. ;D ;D ;D

Nice fish and I do not believe I have every got one that big in 30 years of bar fishing. Beginners luck? ;D ;D
