2006 Fish for the Future, post-event summary
« on: July 08, 2006, 05:40:04 PM »

Just sat down now after unpacking most of the stuff. :-\

All of a sudden it is really windy now!!! We were lucky, it was calm throughout the entire event.

Complete summary, photos still to come. :)

Stay tuned. ;)

Thanks everyone for putting on a fantastic event once again! :) Today's turnout was the biggest so far since we started in 2003! We estimated between 500 and 600 people attended the event. Such a turnout was a result of effective promotion done by the following media:

  • Richmond News
  • Richmond Review
  • Fox FM
  • Shaw TV
  • BC Family Fishing Weekend
  • National Fishing Week
  • Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC
  • Fisheries and Oceans Canada
  • City of Richmond
  • Local businesses of Steveston

This event was well supported this year by many in the industry. Thank you for sticking with us to make this event grow. :) Our sponsors include:

  • BC Family Fishing Weekend
  • National Fishing Week
  • Redl Sport
  • Anglers West Fly and Tackle
  • Reaction Fly and Tackle
  • Gibbs Fishing
  • Berry's Bait and Tackle
  • Green Great Printing Ltd.
  • City of Richmond
  • Sportfishing Institute of BC
  • Pacific Streamkeepers Federation
  • Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Photos of the event can be found at: http://www.fishingwithrod.com/member/gallery/2006fftf

I'll be adding more later on.

Some of the event highlights (at least the ones I saw anyways):

  • OWL's educational display of hawk and owl.
  • The big largescale sucker and other smaller fish in the aquarium.
  • Various fish id cards that could be collected at the event.
  • BC Hydro Powersmart's kids games.
  • Burns Bog Conservation Society's activities for the kids.
  • Seymour Salmonid Society's display of coho salmon and educational tools.
  • Flycasting instruction by Jeff Weltz.
  • Flytying clinics by Deb, Randy, April and Carlo.
  • Fishing on the floating dock! Almost everyone caught at least a sculpin.
  • Fantastic draw prizes (7 rod & reel combos were given away).
  • Tony's art station!
  • Gibbs' lure display!

More to come, dinner/refueling time. ;)

Well done as usual by Rodney and his comittee along with the numerous sponsors. Good to see so many attend the event that I am sure was enjoyed by children and adults alike.

I am sure they caught more fish than the event I was involved with today but the supper was good. ;D ;D ;D

A Canuck hat for you, 2:40 and your grandson ! I echo what others have said. Good event, well organized but that Rod is a slave driver. Put that table over there, chairs over there, banners here. No breaks, get back to work :D

I've aded a few pics as well now.

It was a great time.  I REALLY couldn't believe how many people kept coming down to the dock!

My cousin-in-law also had a good time, and was glad to have the opportunity to come out and help too!  As usual, a good time, and the event keeps growing!  Soon, we'll have start encompassing two piers :D

What an awesome day!
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and were glad we could help out.  The kids had a lot of fun at all the different booths, doing some colouring, "tattoeing" themselves, tying flies, and just running back and forth, from our cooler down to the water and back again. ;) ;D
It was worth getting up early for,*yawn* and the drive.....(I think... ;) :D)

We could have used some of that windy weather on arriving back in the 'wack. It was 30 degrees here when we got home!  8)
Definately dont notice the heat when you're down by the water.

You guys enjoy your little holiday that you have planned for the later part of the week. You deserve a little relaxing time.

Have fun, and til next time..

Glad the kids had fun buck wife. ;D Thanks for patiently writing up all those fishing licences with Jen and Michelle. At least we had a good shade under that tent, I thought the temperature was just perfect. :)

More photos! These are by Fishersak (060708-99-13 to 060708-99-37)

Another floating dock on that pier would be a good idea. This year's push for a fishing information kiosk did not go through, but I am determined to get it done next year. I'll also bring up the idea of another floating dock, possibly from the other side of the pier.

Kids sure had fun. My older daughter was wondering why no one is cooking those fish in the tank.  She said those fishery people should be ticketed, cause they kept 'wild' coho in the tank. (and they are too small too)  :P
