The Chilliwack Vedder River that so many of us like to enjoy and fish is in dire need of as many bodies as possible to clean up her banks.

She has weathered two long weekends since our last cleanup in April. Lew and Terry have been out checking the whole river this week and have found some very messy areas that need our attention.

If anyone has a half a day to pitch in this Saturday July 15 it will be much appreciated. Registration takes place from 9am to 9:30 am at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

With the cleanup over shortly after noon there is plenty of time to go then and catch a big one on the Vedder or the Fraser. Coffee, muffins and donuts donated by Tim Horton's owner George here in Chilliwack mean you will not even have to make breakfast.

Thanks for posting this Chris. It sure is a mess out there again, but I feel confident we will have enough volunteers from this site, as well as others, to make the river beautiful again.

Thanks for your post Nuggy. We agree with you, as we would rather being doing more enjoyable activities than going out there the last 4 years, 4 times a year cleaning this up mess.

Saying that, imagine the pollution that would have accumulated in the riparian zone and as well the amount of garbage that would have been swept down the Vedder, into the Fraser and then out to Georgia Strait to accumulate on the sea bed if we had not done this unpleasant task. Much thanks goes out each cleanup to our great volunteers that give so freely of their time. Many travel from great distances and at personal cost to do so.

We have made a difference with our Adopt A River Program but we have a ways to go yet to get it under control,

Several meeting have been held, power point presentations of our work and tours of the area's of concern with several government agencies of all jurisdiction have been taking place. The last meeting was just held last week and with every thing unfortunately, it takes time to try and correct things. We think we will get there one day but for now the best solution is to just get out there and pick it up.

Hope to see you and others at a cleanup in the near future when your time permits.

Chris: I had originally planned on helping out with the cleanup but I have to do some overtime work tomorrow so will not be able to help out. But I have helped  on other cleanups, so if people do have the time ....even a couple hours ....every little bit helps out.
