I do not usually fish past the Vedder Crossing nowadays. I was below Lickman today but not much happening. I heard a few got caught a Lickman though- cannot confirm.

I remembered years ago ( like 10 yeasr ), we would usually fish near the limit hole and hook into like 30 fish in a morning.
Lickman was a nice hole to fish too and black on red wool was a killer combination. The red spring run is getting worse every year.

I remembered July 1st was a really big event. People camping all around the river and fish being hooked everywhere.

Ahhhh...those were the days!!!!! :(

Below lickman is where I usually fish too!! if you see a father and a son fishing it might be me :P  (I'm actually pretty tall, so don't confuse the two ;) )

Ya you are right steelie man it wasn't all that many years ago  a guy could hook into good numbers of reds on a fairly consistent basis,i don't know what has happened to them all.I was out on the river today i pounded all my usually productive holes both at the top end and the lower end with no success except for a couple of nice dollies, usually i see some sockeye and springs jumping but not today.

Had a report from my buddy that he was fishing just up from where the sumas enters the vedder, short floating(2-4 feet) roe on a size 2 hook with a Drennan float. he lost 2 springs and landed 1 18 pounder. he said he had all his fish took his hook early in the morning to when it starts getting hot then they seemed to just not care. he also mentioned that his size 2 hook was not making sufficient hook-ups with the fish so he is going to try a 3 or 4 in a couple days when he gets back from the similkameen. he also mentioned the water came down a inch or 2 today while he was fishing. LAST THING, he warns that the trout just demolish the roe on the hook if you fish the slow low water. He was throwing his offering in the faster water were the most flow was and they did not seem to bother the roe. tight lines in going up in the next few days and will post my report.

PS; he also mentioned that the main bar at Keith Wilson is getting ready for fishing.

Steelieman
Releases of juvenile summer run chinook have been about the same for the last ten years. Poor ocean survivals appear to be the main cause for low returns. We have been told to expect a very poor return for coho again this fall. Last year we only had a return of 6500 back to the hatchery, down from about 25K -40 k. Lets hope there wrong. Survival rates for coho  in Washington and Oregon States are predicted to be between 0 and 1 %. In the Mid eighties they were between 10 - 15 %.
