Legend, we hit that area around 11am, my dad didnt touch a fish and I hooked 2, I saw 2 more landed on the other side of the river.
The first one i had was a screamer, I had on for 10-15 minutes...it made several big runs and got out in to the current and as it came down and back in, it was going right into an anchored boat. Unfortunately, to try and avoid the boat, I had to apply more pressure that the hook could take and it popped out.
The second spring I hit, bit my yarn tie as I was reeling it in. I have had that happen with sockeye before to but not a 25lb spring! I had finished my drift, my line was 20 feet from shore directly in front of my dad and wham my rod tip goes down hard. I thought maybe I snagged a sock but after a 5 minute battle, I could see a chrome spring hooked inside the mouth. unfortunately that one came off too. We were on a very shallow area of the bar and every time I tried to land the fish it went back out into deeper water. I was 12 feet from shore and maybe in a foot of water and the fish was at the end of my rod in 18 inches with his back showing! With no landing net and my fishin buddy not seeming to get this fish needed to be landed in the water (not on the beach) it finally unbuttoned after the 3rd attempt to get him in the shallows.
