Cork handles

I just got my new toy... a 7.0 fenwick HMG  ;D only 38$ after tax hahah i got 60% off hehe

anyways... when you guys buy new rods... do you prefer to leave the plastic wrapper on to keep the cork shinning like new or do u take it off to age it to perfection?

i can never stay on a rod long enough to have the cork age nicely... hmm just wondering wat you guys do?

Yes, get rid of the plastic, and clean the cork on a regular basis.

They use cork for a reason, if they wanted rods to have plastic grips they would make them with plastic grips.

If you leave the plastic wrap on and your handle gets wet it will start to deteriorate and get moldy.  The cork needs to breath.  Trust me I learned this the hard way.  ::)

This is exactly true. It's my pet peeve when ppl leave the plastic on the rod.

The thing I like best about cork is the feel of it in my hand...cork has a nice texture and is pretty grippy to.  If that doesnt matter, dont pay and extra cent for the cork...get the foam grips.

As well, if you are worried about your cork deteriorating, you can buy a seal for cork the should help extend the life and minimise the procure stains!

Wash your cork handle with soap and water and it will last for years.

They have a little device out for cleaning your cork, its called a "cork sucker" ;D
