Campbell River August 4th
« on: August 04, 2006, 10:41:34 PM »

I am over at Campbell River right now visiting my mother. Was out this afternoon on the Campbell targetting pinks. Lots in the system but none would take my fly. They are closed for retention and are strictly C&R right now. None of the gear fishermen were having any luck either. I think its best in the morning or evening personally.

Went out to the beach and tried my luck ( Open for retention in the salt ) They like to hang around the kelp beds as their is lots of feed there. The tide was high so reaching the beds was not going to happen. Still tried and had a few taps but that was all. Going to go back in the morning to the kelp beds as low tide is at 8am. My brother took a short 30sec video using my digital camera of me casting. When I get home I will share it as well as the pics. Hopefull we can get some footage of me getting into a fish tomorrow.

The ones in the river are usually pretty tight lipped especially on sunny days that we are having right now. Years ago we fished it and early morning or late evening seemed to work best. The flyfishermen did better than the gear guys back then. The most successful ones were fishing their fly under a strike indicator.

6wt i plan on upgrading soon. That wasnt the reel i used though. 8 wt would be a bit easier i think to punch the line out against the 50km+ winds we faced.

Were you beach fishing Kellya? I was out today and no love for me. We were beach fishing and about 30mins in I take a break. About 5 mins later my stepfather sees a jumper about 50 feet down from us. No big deal. All of a sudden that one jumper becomes 100's finning and jumping about 15 feet from shore. I scramble and get my rod and quickly try and shoot my line out. I missed them  :(  We waited for another school but another school never showed up. So off to the river. A few guys were around and said nothing was happening. Lots of fish around but they were probably on the move as they were just not biting tonight. That Quinsam sure needs some water badly. Those fish cannot get up before it gets some rain.

Too bad we didnt get any footage of me catching anything. This was the first time trying the video feature on my digital camera so hopefully we get some more good footage the next time.
