Well it was another beautiful morning on the fraser and bigsteel and I headed out for first light. Within three casts I yell fish on and since I have not had any luck landing a spring on the fraser this year I give it a little extra when I yell. Ten minutes later she is on the beach at around 18lbs  ;D ;D ;D . Finally I land one and it was red for a little bonus  ;D . I get back to my spot record it on my liscence and I am out casting again and before you know I am done with my 2 sockeye. All within an hour and ten minutes. Not a bad morning as for the rest it seemed pretty slow. Bigsteel got his two but he had to work a little harder then I did. Sure seemed slower then yesterday.

If there is a slow down, it could be because of prior net fleet opening. When was the last net (drift or seine) opening, commericial or native?

My best 3 days of sockeye fishing were the 3 days after a commerical opening. :)

Yeah, it was a nice day out.  Also really nice to see Gt finally land his first Spring of the year.   I did have to work a bit harder today, mind you I think this was due to the guy three guys down that was casting 40 feet up river and 30 feet out.  Caught me on almost every cast.  But of course, he hadn't just started fishing yesterday, and had caught many more sockeye than I will ever see.  :o ::) In fact, he suggested that we all wait for him and if we didn't want to watch his every move to try to figured out when it was safe to cast, then he was going to cast over all of our lines. ??? I so just sat back and watched him get everyone else, then when he broke off from getting snagged on every cast, well that was my chance.  This is how I had to fish today.  It was either that or go down there and have a "Friendly word" with him!!  So I decided that you can't, in this case teach an old know it all dog new tricks. ???
  Anyhow, we got our fish, and could have been gone by maybe 7:30 am. He didn't get squat!!  Which I was slightly entertained by!! ;D
  Gt's cleaning job from yesterday was, well, needed again today.  So, we cleaned up our surrounding area again.  Now I felt good about this, but upon the walk out, I couldn't believe how much crap was all over the place that really didn't need to be there.  We even saw a pair of waders on the way out with duck tape on them the someone just left laying on the side of the trail.  ??? This is a total disgrace as an earlier thread had discussed.  So I won't really get into it much more.  But come on, leaving waders that you shouldn't have brought out anyways.  That is a bit much, buddy, if you read this I hope you are happy.  >:( It is people like you that are going to get this and many other goods spots closed down.  >:( Pull your head out of you my friend.  To everyone else.  If you don't want to pick up any garbage fine.  No problem that is up to you.  But please, take out your own.   ;)
 Anyhow, I suppose I have gone on long enough. :)  I am done this year, I have enough fish and as happens every year, when I start getting frustrated it is time to pack it in.  Last year that was after 2 trips!! ;D ;D

BS is right about Seabird and its garbage situation. About a week ago, a native lady was yelling at every body that they better pick up their garbage or get shut out, because she said every one was trespassing on native land.  It will be trouble if Seabird gets shut down. Where will all that huge crowd go? They will jam up every other bar and fishing will be shoulder to shoulder by then. I hope not.   :(  Better smarten up guys.

I would say Seabird is on borrowed time.  I have not been there this year, but with the garbage I have seen there in the past I am amazed that it has not yet ben shut down.

Earlier in the season my fishing partner talked to an older native guy fishing at Seabird. He mentioned that the band was looking at putting in a boatlaunch just downstream of seabird. It would be user pay of course. I couldn't help wondering about how this could play into the public access for the main Seabird/Spring bar.

Private land in BC can only exist down to the high water mark, so I would not worry about it...

And you can contact the band council to have a word and meet them in person, and ask for permission to access through their native territory. They are good people and will be very impressed with your actions...

glad to hear you guy's catching fish,and as to the garbage situation people become ignorant about it cause it's not on their property,just imagine line/empty cans/plastic etc... all over our yards.
