I'm thinking of going to this river, but i don't have the right equiment, I'm going to be trying to catch my first ever coho salmon.
I need to know the best rod and reel for the cheapest price, Im also looking for all around type fishing rod for all different kinds of salmon. I'm going tommorow afternoon to buy the equiment, I dont really know what to buy, I'm thinking of Shimano converance medium or somthing... Please help! P.S looking for an begginer rod and reel that can handle any type of salmon on any river.

you need to find a good tackle shop or you will end up with a rod and reel that is junk, a good tackle shop will show you a good starter combo that will last you a couple of years and won't break the bank !!

think shimano convergance and abu garcia 6500 c3 should get this combo for less than $250 including tax and it will serve you well

Which convence I'm i better off with? Shimano Convergence & Slade Combo I'm wondering if this will work for salmon in the cap

get the convergance 10'6'' medium rod, I hear that army and navy has it for cheap right now.. the reel hmmmm Abu 6500 c3 or c4 or the shimano cardiff or corsair are the only three baitcasting reels I can think of that are half decent and anywhere near you r budget...

or will the medium-heavy be better?

don't get the medium heavy... I have it and it is great if you are targeting bigger fish but it is no good for steehead or coho, the medium is a great all round rod and you can still bring in a 30 pound spring on it if need be

So right after that i will have my first ever complete salmon rod!
Im not sure which reel I will get out of those three probally the cheapest any reccomendions?
Any what lb line should I put on and what lures should i be using on the cap

I was at Highwater Tackle in North Vancouver this morning and Dave has some awesome rod's for very cheap right now.. he has a medium action rod and a abu ambasadeur reel for $190 plus tax .. that is a great deal for a very very nice setup and that includes line on the reel... you won't beat that price I don;t think!!!!

Hi small_fish,i think you want a answer before you go out at 1 oclock,i would recom for beginner,you better spool up 15 lb for main line,this is average for most river in the lower main land for beginner,than later on after you know how to play with the fish,then change into 12 lb for main

Yup I agree 15 pound is more than sufficient, I usually use 12 lb
if you go see Dave at Highwater tell him that Rick sent you and he will know exactly the setup I am talking about

I would also recommend getting some 8lb maxima leader line.  If you decide to go to Highwater Dave can show you what lures to pick up for the Cap.

Ok,, My dad bought me a Shimano Convernce medium 12-20 lb ROD!! And a Abu garcia 6500 ambursder C3!!!!!!!!
Are these good it came up to 210 bucks    But its worth it i hope
15 Main line maxima ultra green? or what I want the best results! is 12 or 15?
