vedder river, thursday 9-21
« on: September 21, 2006, 09:50:11 PM »

Well guys and gals I guess it's officially started...The gong show that is...Went up this afternoon, headed to the same spot. Park at Lickman and hike down hitting various spots...Last week, same day and time, the parking lot had one other car...today, it was half full and guys leaving left and right..saw two springs next to cars, no ho's though..

KWB on the way over had at least 20 guys on both shores at 1pm.. ??? ouch... Headed down from there and the first hole on the big bar had over 15 guys on it still...last week it was just me and my cp bud..who I left there and kept going...just nuts for a Thursday....Oh well, as others have said...just keep hiking and crossing and you will find some decent water...

Saw maybe one ho today...saw lots of springs and jacks...I'm am totally pissed off right now as they wouldn't touch NOTHING...I figured I had every size and color and secret fly covered...not one bump..and they were flopping around us all afternoon...Any of you guys been to Tunkwa and seen all the fish jumping and not caught anything...( chironomids work  ;)) weLL that was what today was like for me...I feel totally whooped...

On a bright side my buddy got shut out to and he was gut chucking hard all day too...didn't see any landed around us either but we only had one other guy where we were and he left after a half hour or so...Said he did Ok the day before but got nothing in today...Also on a positive note..My buddy and I swapped for awhile and I got some time in on his C.P.  Had one very minor nest...seconds and fixed...God, I still suck at casting ...got a little better after a while but no shoulder to shoulder bull sheeit for me....I'd be crossing lines big time... :-[

So all in all...some positives...lots of frustration...and I think it's time to let the bears out a little longer this year!! ;)
Sorry, no fish pictures this time...

Sorry to hear that X, but they have to start hitting at some point.  My next day out for me is Sunday before the clean-up.  I have a couple of things to try for them!! ;)  I just might get lucky and hook into one or 3, mind you, the only thing I might get is a lighter roe box!! ;D
Thanks for the report, and glad you got out!! ;)

I think you'll do a lot better earlier then late like myself..I also think smaller is a very good idea..and I wish he would have had some colorados and jigs...I would have liked to see if that would have done something.

nice to hear some fish are moving in. They can't wait much longer . but it  sounds as if the HO's are not coming in yet , and the springs are instead .

I did not do any better fish wise, fished first light, one take, missed, ??? went to Cookies for breakfast, ;D fished again, nothing, ??? home for a nap, ;D fished last hour of the day one miss. ???

The other plus' for the day was, found a drennan, ;D, 15 golf balls, ;D 2 skeins of spring roe thrown away by some angler, ;D, a few dollars worth of bottles including some donated to me by an angler while I was hanging up a garbage bag for the people fishing KWB, ;D A visit with Toothpick Tom, ;D  pulling 3 parts of a washing machine someone had dumped in the river at KWB  :((Put it on the shore for pickup on our cleanup day on Sunday. There is another appliance there that I could not reach) and maybe the best part was, just being out on the flow. ;D priceless

Gosh I might just go out tomorrow, going to tie up some roe bags now. ;D ;D

Hey Chris I also found two skeens of spring roe yesterday. Also got a really nice 4.5 lbs spring jake. I was more happy with the roe. It will be perfect for roe bags.

With all the springs already there, and no sign of coho, does not sound too primising for a good coho showing. I spoke with a fellow yeterday who said that the coho fishery looks pretty dismal all over the province.
I guess I'll need to find a few more recipes for Chum and white spring this year. Boy, it's been a while since the coho have been there in any real great numbers. According to my journal 2000 was decent, and 1999 was fantastic. It hasn't been all that solid since.
What a shame.

I was picking up a can out of the river..sitting in the middle of the shallows..went to stab it with my wading staff and it was full...So there you go...sometimes cleaning up pays off...It was a cranberry diet soda...with some foreign writing all over one side...what's up with that.???.... ;D but was good and cold...

Last Saturday there was only one salmon and a bunch of suckers.

Are you referring to the fish or fishermen ? ;)

Were there any fish holding under the bridge this week? Last Saturday there was only one salmon and a bunch of suckers.
If you are talking about KWB yes, the long lining crew were pulling them in. ::)

That's a good thing. Not the long linig crew but the fact that theres fish. Did you see any cohos pulled in by those guys chris?
Coho seem far between, a friend picked one up yesterday but I have not seen one caught in 5 trips except my jack, maybe tomorrow that will change. The fish, springs anyway are spread throughout the system from top to bottom. Saw them taken in the lower this morning and then when out this afternoon in the upper reviewing the area's for Saturday's cleanup saw a very mature one ::) taken at the Limits Hole.

With the clear water the fish that are biting are taking it very lightly, a lot of the time the float is down and up before you strike. Out with 2:40 this am and he missed a few and I had but one chance.

Chris, if your not having any takes just lengthen your float depth and you'll have all kinds  of action. I checked out a couple of pools and was discussded by all the long liners out fishing. Some nice water if one could fish it without all the extra activity that these anglers generate.
