Still no BC river salmon for me
« on: September 28, 2006, 04:04:19 PM »

First light this morning, I was on my favorite Vedder spot. Not a big surprise, the water level was very low, but as I start casting, I see several fish jumping. The stream is not really fast, but as the fish are here, I fish...I was using 2-2.5 feet leader, split shot, 8 pounds leader. I started with roe bags, then I shifted to smal pieces of wool in peach, green, red, then gooey bobs, then single jensen eggs, then colorado blades, then.... everything I have in my jacket... and nothing, not a single bite. The salmon (chinook and coho I think, but I am still not an expert  ::)) did not stop jumping during the whole morning, sometimes almost on my float... Beavers came by to say hello. Even a bear came to laugh at me (take care!).
No river salmon yet for me. According to the reports, everybody else seems to catch fish. Am I that bad ?
Not a bad day to be on the river, just a bit frustrating!!!  ???

We've all had one of those days. Keep at it and you will be rewarded.

youll get a fish just make sure your line is in the water, and you constantly switch it up. Sounds like you were doing everything right, try moving down to 6 lb leader line, I hit my 2nd coho switch from 8lb to 6lb.

I am having a streak of luck like you are having right now. In past years I would hook up on what would seem every outing. This year I have a terrible track record. Its just some bad luck. Once they start biting you will find you cant keep them off. Just persistence my friend. Hopefully we both have our luck turn around. I'll be back at it on Saturday.

yep!!! I am really looking for my first salmon

when you face this kind of situation (lot of fish but no bite). Do you stay at the same place and try again and again or do you move and try another run?

The run I fished was quite slow and I wonder if the fish did not bite because they had too much time to see the leader arriving.

Never caught a salmon? Well it will come, hopefully sooner rather than later. I will try a run for about an hour or a bit longer. If no fish come through after that I will move. Right now with little rain I would find the deeper pools as they will hold there longer. If fish are in the pool I see no reason to move. I will pound it for a good hour than take a 15-20min break to let the run calm down and try again.

I am pretty well in the same boat as you with only one coho and a spring jack in numerous trips.

Was down by KWB cleaning up some garbage today and saw some fish on and many others lying in the water teathered by ropes. I wonder what they are doing right that I am not. ::) ???

yes it is possible, no salmon in river yet.

I caught 2 nice chinooks in the ocean this summer, but it was with a guide, and when i am with a guide I do not really consider that I am fishing. The guide is fishing, I play with the fish...

I arrived in BC last December, so I started with the hard part, steelhead, and as I had some pretty good success at the end of the season, I thought catching salmon would be easy. I tried to catch a red on the vedder this summer, but nothing. And as I do not really enjoy fishing in line I did not go to the Fraser... Result after almost one year here, no salmon...

Lot of garbage where I went this morning. Next time I will bring one or two bags to clean a bit

no need to start a new topic... :'(,, I am still a salmon virgin.

Today I decided to do some exploring. I walked a lot but did not find a good spot with the current water level. I just caught a nice rainbow.

If it doesn't rain until next week, I will try another river.
