Fishing with Rod Vedder River Spring Derby?
« on: October 10, 2006, 04:37:45 PM »

Was thinking that it might be fun to have a Vedder Spring Derby with some different rules. Something like If you want to keep the fish that is fine, but we would suggest releasing them.  Also, fishing boundaries would be from above Keith Wilson up to Wilson Rd and below.  Sizes would be determined by the measurements and formula.  It would be a team competition, thus putting less stress on the fish when you have a buddy there to help you.  The pic would be to verify that the fish was not a boot. What do you think?
Any other suggestions would be good, and was thinking about this coming weekend as we wouldn't want to do it to late, as the Springs would be getting in worse shape by the day.
Also was thinking of a $20 entry fee, paid when we meet up in the morning. ;)

Yes Bird that is fine if you and your Dad enter.  The reason it would be that low on the river is for a couple simple reasons.  First, I along with some otehr from this forum were up river this weekend and we didn't see one clean Spring.  But later in the day we did see many rather clean springs in the mid river area below Wilson rd.  Also, I wanted to keep as many of the meat holes as possible out of the equation.  I don't want any unethical means used for the catching of these fish.  THEY BITE MOST OF THE TIME.  No need for the meat holes. ;)
Also Sunday sounds good to me as well. ;D

If you guys are doing it on Saturday, remember that the Help Habitat Fundraiser is also on. I have a suggestion... :)

Make the entry $10 (20 is quite steep), set aside a small amount (20, 30) for first place, donate the rest to the help habitat fundraiser at the end of the derby for a good cause. ;)

Also come to the fundraiser, it's a salmon BBQ this year, should be a good one. :)

That may just be a good idea Rodney.  But we would have to see who could come out for Satuday!  I would think that $20 would be good and half the proceeds go the the Fundraiser!  How does that sound?  I can go either day so.....

No not rich, but....  This is a team competition.  Besides more money for the fundraiser and as you said it is for a good cause!!  BTW, when is the BBQ?  We could have that be the end fishing time. ;D

So this is what I came up with so far, winning team take all!!  Half the prize money goes to the fundraiser and winner will be determinied by combined weight of the team.  Pics must be taken to ensure that the fish is not a total boot. The weight will be determined by measurements and the formula that I don't know just yet, so if someone could look after that that would be great.  If you are not keeping the fish, take care in getting the measurements and keep the fish in the water.  That is why there is 2 people to a team. ;)

Keep in mind though, this is only a go if we get enough teams, so far we have enough for 2 teams, and the quitting time looks like it would be somewhere around 11:30 which wuld give us around 5 hrs of fishing time!! ;)
