it feels weird bein the new guy
« on: October 30, 2006, 11:33:51 AM »

I'm new to the forum, so just wanted to give a big WAZUUUP to everyone.  I'v spent the last 4-5 years as a FisheBC member, and recently have a noticed a lot of references to this site. So here I am.  I believe I'v met you Rodney a while ago, at the first Vedder clean up.  Anyways I like to think I know a little bout fishing, but then again, I also like to think the Canucks will make the playoffs, hmmmmmm :-\.  I was pretty much brought up on a boat fishin local Georgia Strait, however, ocean, river, lake, puddle, you name it I'll fish it.  I enjoy fishing as much for the scenic backgrounds, as I do for actually catchin a fish.

Cheers.

Hello fellow new guy. I have been fishing the chuck since I was four but only started river fishing about 5 weeks ago. I am hooked (pardon the obvious play on words).

TR, thanks for the welcome. I have picked up a lot of good advice from the forum here and FishBC. I was up at Allison Pool on Saturday as the only other spots I have been to (Vedder bridge and Lickman Road) were dead. The river was up 1.5 to 2 feet from the week previous and visibility was maybe 2 feet at Lickman.

I tried peach / pink wool at Allison but to no avail with the exception of one large Chum. A guy next to me was getting Springs on one after another but couldn't land any of them.  I hear a lot of talk about spoons / spinners / roe but am still somewhat clueless. I am thinking of heading up to the Chehalis this coming Saturday to see what I can do.

Does anyone have photos or drawings of classic setups in those 3 configurations?

Welcome guys. :) Don't forget the personal profile thread. ;)

Regarding roe, spoons and spinners. Here are some links:

Roe fishing with a float:

http://www.fishingwithrod.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=7906.0

Coho fishing in general:
http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/2004/1104_01.html

Personally, if I am fishing lures on a run with moderate flow, I like to use a spoon by casting it out and allowing it to drift and swing across the run while I slowly retrieve it. This has worked great for me on coho at tailouts. I don't particularly like to fish with spinners on a run, even though I have caught some fish this way too. Many like to fish a unweighted spinner/blade under a float and seem to do well by casting upstream and slowly retrieving the line as the float drifts down towards you.

This year, i stopped float fishing with roe since the first couple of days of October when the Vedder River wasn't producing for me like other years. I haven't been back this year yet.

Rodney, thanks for the links and the information. What kind of set-up should be used when fishing colorado blades? Mainline / Float / Swivel / Splitshot or Pencil / Leader / Blade ?

Thanks ! Kelso
