Key Ko, sounds like you had a great day. I've never been to the Chehalis as I've always gone to the Vedder, Lickam, Allison Pool, etc. How do I get there? Any advice for newbie looking for some Ho's on Sunday? I'll be heading out from downtown Vancouver. Thanks !

I was there as well, what a waste of time, color was like a timmy's double double, with enough lumber coming down to make about a kabillion stir sticks. Water very high with little to no chance of hooking a fish in the mouth.

I could have named 20 new waterways today.

Save your gas money and do those chores around the house that you have been trying to get done since before sockeye season.

I second Cammer's comments. That canyon can be very nasty especially with the rain. My advice is to only go to the canyon with someone who knows thier way around. First time i went up was years ago but i was by myself. I went up early in the day and managed to follow 2 other guys in who were old hands at the canyon. I took thier advice though and got my tail outta there well before dark. It's real easy to get lost in there. If you must check it out on your own, I advise a first aid kit with water, bear spray, a good flashlight and if you have it... a GPS. Not trying to scare you away from discovering the canyon but in my years of fishing I have heard of many great days gone terribly bad.

I also went to the canon for the first time years ago with a couple of guys that fish it alot and after that one day I have never been back. Did not like the idea of having to climb down the side of a very steep hill with my rod in one hand and the other hand plus two fingers of the hand holding the rod to use a rope to get down to the river. The other spot we went to was down the side of a hill hiking down a very narrow switch back to get down. Was not my idea of fun.

Three or four years ago 2 guys fished a pool in the canyon, they were standing on rocks as told by unfortunate witnesses, on a rainy day with the river rising. I was on the lower portion at Easter seal. Fishing away, suddenly a search and rescue heliicopter came hovering by lower than the tree tops searching for one of the fishers who had fallen into the canyon fast water and was swept away infront of his buddies eyes. Moments later a SAR ground crew searched the banks and questioned us if we had see him in the water.
It was in November, they found his body in the Fraser river at Mission under a log boom entangled in the cables in January.

The canyon is a very dangerous place to fish not to mention all the b & e's that happen up there.

My brother was out there today. He didn't really give me much of a report but here are his pics. I'm sure he'll type one up later when he gets a chance.

dont recommend a new fisherman ever fishing the canyon  esp. under these conditions,  stay to the hatchery

Cammer, thanks for the advice, took it and went to the Squamish river instead on Sunday. Got there late at about 10:00am and walked to to the rivers edge to see about 30 or 40 guys spread out. Between my buddy and myself we must have landed 12 - 13 nice looking chums with another 12 or 13 that didn't make it in. The weather was alright when we got there and turned badly making most people call it a day. I didn't see or hear of any Cohos being taken but I think maybe a few Springs were. A fun but very wet day.
