Lost on the Squamish River
« on: November 05, 2006, 10:40:54 AM »

On Wednesday, November 1, I had the middle and top sections of my spey rod go into the river when the backing knot caught on the rod eye whilst battling a fish.  All disappeared into the river.  Should someone happen to come across these two pieces in tact, I'd be happy to give you a reward of $100 or donate the like sum to your favourite charity.  This rod was important to me as it was a gift from my father who passed away last fall.

The rod pieces are grey carbon fibre with maroon whippings and the joints are corked inside so it should float.  I know that this is a long shot, but miracles do sometimes happen ...

The same thing happened to me with a single handed fly rod some years ago on the Eagle run.
I was lucky. The backing knot hooked on to the bottom guide of the tip and within half an hour, line, tip and attached fish were spotted moving  back upstream. I had given up but another angler yelled that my line was coming so I waded out and handlined it all in. Everything was recovered and the puzzled fish released.......good luck

Some years ago a young man drowned in the Cap-his Mom worked in the same place as a friend of mine.

Sure enough he was fishing lower down a week or so later and he hooked the guy's spinning outfit.

He never told her though she was in real bad shape-as was the outfit.

Good Luck with the Spey rod-maybe mention it in that Tackle Shop in Squamish.

I also lost a rod and reel, but to a thief on Sunday morning. I was dropping off the better half for a bus trip to Reno Sunday morning at 730 am. Parked at the Accent Inn in Richmond and brought the luggage to the bus when I returned to the car that was parked right out front someone had went into my unlocked car and pilfered my rod.

Moral of the story......when is rain gonna flood out the sinners in Richmond.
and lock your car even if you think someone won't go in there with all the gargage and underware laying around. :-\
