Squamish Nov 6
« on: November 06, 2006, 11:29:31 AM »

Went to the Squamish river on Sunday. Got there late at about 10:00am and walked to the rivers edge to see about 30 or 40 guys spread out. Although visibility was aslmost nil, between my buddy and myself we must have landed 12 - 13 nice looking chums with another 12 or 13 that didn't make it in. We were using either pink, red or peach colored wool. (EDITED, my buddy was not aware that he could not use scent, same goes for me :( thanks for the heads up Frenchy) We tried other colors, lime green and purple but to no avail. It was a good time to experiment. The weather was alright when we got there and turned badly making some folks call it a day. I didn't see or hear of any Cohos being taken but I think maybe a few Springs were. A fun but very wet day.

Sounds like a pretty good day rain and all!  Thinking I might head up that way next Monday, if Chilliwack is under water by then!

I didn't see or hear of any Cohos being taken but I think maybe a few Springs were.

I would bet my bottom dollar that there were no springs caught or hooked or seen. The Squamish chinook run is a summer run and there is a very small fall run in late Sept. - early October. A good chum run though.

As for river conditions .... forget it! We have had over 300 MM of rain since Thursday and everthing is roaring. Squamish up over 2 Meters just today.

Yep the Squamish is toast and will be for a few days even if it clears up.. I heard that the river is up to 20 plus feet deep now !!!! that is insane ! there will be alot of fish travelling very close to shore and I am sure the flossers will be there once more  ::) ::) I am pretty sure that any fish caught in these conditions would be nicely flossed !

Had a pretty interesting time at the Squamish on the weekend.  Nothing like hooking into a Chum and then having to pull it in with 10 lb test and at the same time avoiding logs, branches etc. as it floated downstream.  All in all a good day.  Can someone tell me if it is normal to be fishing a spot for a couple of hours and then have someone park themselves 7 ft away from you when there is much more room about 30 ft downstream?  I would always find adequate space to drop my line even if it means I have to walk a little further so as to not interfere with others.  But this seems to have happened to me and my buddies a few times this year.

yep and instead of having 2 foot between the anglers and 15 foot leaders we may end with a min of 15 foot between anglers and a max of 2 foot leader...  :-\
