Thickrick and myself decided to hit the Squish today looking to get into some clean chum. I arrived at his door at 5:50 a.m. and after a quick stop at Mr. Horton's for some breakfast sandwiches and fritters and coffee (although I wish TR would stop at 'Buck's instead!) we were off. TR's friend Hunter and his uncle were going to meet us there as well. Rather than going to the Mamquam, we decided to hit a different spot, one that I knew about but haven't gone to this year as the first nations had closed off the path access to this spot last year. Looks like they've decided to allow access again as there was no sign hanging there. We hiked to the river and started fishing. This is a nice spot as there aren't too many people, the flow of water is a bit slow but there's still lots of fish. I know I hooked over 20 fish, landed I don't know how many and ended up keeping one. This fish, in fact:
A nice doe that was gutted, cleaned, fillet'd and skinned after I got home.
TR got into many fish as well but he decided not to keep any today. Since his smoker was stolen recently, I guess he didn't want any extra meat.
Hunter got into some fish as well and I believe he took home a buck. His uncle got into quite a number of fish, and took home a fish.
Today, we used yarn of all sorts of colors, jigs, beaded flies, and a spinner (which was the only thing that didn't connect and was changed after about a dozen casts).
Water had about 2 feet of vis when we got there but got murkier as the day rolled on and as more rain fell. Good day to be out. TR landed a few fish on jigs today, a first for him. He may not be a believer in jigs yet, but at least he knows they work! Meanwhile as I type this, I'm curing up this latest batch of roe. New techniques to try again!
Oh, and we met Lucky and his girlfriend today as well. Howdy folks!
