« on: November 17, 2006, 03:30:46 PM »

i have a 91 mazda b2600i,the check engine light came on.Had it scanned twice,no codes come up.Was told it was probably a factory service light(money grab),thats why no codes come up.Does anyone know how to reset the check engine light ?Disconnecting the battery does not reset.I heard there is a reset switch under the dash somewhere.Anyone know ?

If you already scanned for code, and no code found and if the mileage is over 120k,usaully is the o2 sensor replacement reminder,if it is,you cannot reset by disconnect the battery post, you have to reset at the back side of the dashboard ;)

I used to have a 1992 Mazda B2200.  The check engine soon light would come on at specific KM intervals so if it came on at some odometer reading with a lot of zeros it is just a standard reminder to service the vehicle.  You can reset it by looking at the pile of wiring underneath the steering column.  You should see a 3 wire combination with 2 wires connected together with a connector and another wire with no wire connected to it.  Simply undo the 2 wires that are connected and plug the appropriate wire (they are male and female connectors) into the wire that had no wire connected to it.  This should reset your service light.  (If it doesn't you really do have a code)           Regards   Derek

Also depending upon your mileage, as one  other individual stated the light comes on at selected intervals as a reminder to do some prescribed maintenance on the engine. For instance, the timing belt,  on the engine does have to be replaced eventually. You can delay its replacement, but eventually it does have to get replaced. My two cents worth.
