Hey I would like to know if anyone knows how much schooling this takes and what I would need to become an officer also when i become one where do I get posted do I have to be in some small town first or can I stay here.

Just like in the rcmp, you have to be willing to be posted anywhere in canada.

You need a background in biology or fisheries (2 year diploma or BSC) I think it also helps to take the conservation law enforcement program out of lethbridge. Having field experience helps as well.

They usually get 1000+ applications whenever they post a position and the competition is intense. The interview process is 3-4 days long (written tests, interviews, report writing, physical and psych exams etc).

You WILL be stationed in a small town until you get some seniority.

They just finished hiring 20 new cadets for the Pacific Region so it may be a while before they hire again.

Pretty Sure you have to go to Regina for training still  if you get accepted , just like the RCMP do, the schooling part not sure on , My uncle used to be a CO and he was shipped off to Regina for training program, then he quit and joined the RCMP and had to go back to Regina

I have looked quite deep into becoming such a law enforcment officer and have found that going to Regina is one option and going to UNBC is another. Going to Uni takes 4 years where as RCMP training takes around half that.
If you dont nessecarally have to grades or money to go to Uni than Regina is the better choice, that is if one doesn't get home sick.
It seems like a great career and is one that I am defenitly pursing for the long run....hopefully.

Yeah, you got to watch out for that...on the rcmp website, they state for basic requirements  "19 years of age and highschool diploma".... There is so much competition in policing that they don't really consider you till your about 28 ,and they look for post secondary education. In those couple of years out of high school you might as well go through with a degree .

Agree with Ivan. I have a friend who is a RCMP. She's had post secondary education plus several years as a Vancouver auxiliary police officer before getting accepted into the RCMP.

Thanks for all the input  sound more like a career just to get a career The good thing is I am already going to school . I  just  need to add some other courses that will help me.
