Kim's first steely, Jan 13, 2007
« on: January 14, 2007, 07:38:41 PM »

Since the reports have been a little slow lately I thought I would share a quick one and a great pic.

The weather was frigid yesterday but Kim and I decided to head out to the local river to give it a try anyway. We slept in to avoid the cold of the morning and hit the river at 10am to fish untill last light.

The river was off colored but we were still very hopefull and just glad to be out. We fished alot of nice water and Kim was rewarded with her first ever steelhead (on her first ever trip winter steelheading!) Here is her fish, I think the smile says it all!

The fish put on a great show and we had to run after it as it headed down stream. She caught it in a great looking slot that was around 2ft deep with good chop for cover.

We did not see any other fish but this fish made our day and Kim will now be hooked on Steelheading for life!
I am very proud of her and she is well on her way to becoming a good fisherwoman!

I would guess around 13-14 it looks bigger because Kim is a small woman. She definetly outfished me yesterday and I am supposed to be the one doing the teaching! Just kidding I would rather see the excitement of a begginer, she even gave it a kiss upon release! Her arms are very sore today and the fish burned a hole in the thumb of her gloves on it's first run. It was one of the hottest steelhead I have ever seen hooked!

Edit: Birdman it was not us we had non fishing comitments today  ??? what is up with that when life gets in the way of fishing!

Thats a beauty. So was this the first ever steelhead she has hooked? You said winter and nothing about summer so I am assuming she has hooked into a summer run? If this is her very first steelhead ever she should be proud. Someone with much more experience could lose a fish that size and she landed hers. Thats awesome. Now how to get my wife into fishing. I try and try and am never successful..........
