I took the boyfriend out today for his first time out steelheading this year... We started down around Lickman from the campground side, and there were people everywhere...
Moved up to curtains, chatted with homeowner there for a bit, and still no action. He was so nice and easygoing, very plesant! He offered to take a photo for us:
Moved up to the mid river, and I lost one on the spey rod; It came as a total shock with all the cold weather, I didn't expect to hook one.
First one on the new rod, lots of fun! Here's a photo of me playing it... 4th time she came out of the water, she came off.
My boyfriend broke his flyrod early on in the day, so I gave him the gear rod, taught him how to use it, and he picked up the free spooling concept very fast, a great learner...
And what do you know, he got his first steelhead ever today (first time ever using a levelwind and first fish ever caught float fishing), check out the beast!
The fish was an easy 16, maybe 17... A brute of a fish. The guys around him were amazed at it's size... It was wild, and went back in. I told him in all my years on the vedder, I have only caught 2 fish that large.
Better yet was the look on his face, couldn't wipe the grin off, I think it's still there right now
Cheers,
Nicole
