A good idea, to have another derby. I like the idea of having a photo derby so those of us that choose to release all of our steelies can get involved in it as well.

edit: I voted hell ya!

Nope just asking. I have my hands full with all the things I am doing for the Alouette otherwise I would help. Maybe BigSteel wants to help I think he needs the karma right now LOL

What Nuggy said. Too many times in one year would not make it special eventually. Wouldn't people rather see lots of people attending one grand event instead of small groups of people attending several events overtime? Secondly, derbies require prizes. Tacklestores are not charities, they are businesses. If donations are requested too often, then it may ultimately force stores to reduce the amount given away each time.

There are plenty other events ahead of us in 2007 by the way. Now that members know each other after the derby, you can always hook up with each other and do small group outings on weekends. We'll probably do the usual Kawkawa Lake kokanee trip later on in spring, St Mary's Lake smallmouth bass trip, barfishing trip in July when chinook salmon arrive, plus all the river cleanups ahead of us, BC family fishing weekend in June, perhaps a put-and-take lake trout derby in April. I'm sure we will not be bored. ;)

A mid - late June Chinook derby on the Fraser sounds like a great idea. I know I can play water taxi if we want to hit the bar across from Island 22.

Fish-In would be better. It won't be easy getting prizes twice in one season. My advice would to have it in Febuary when theres a few more fish around so we can make a fish/burger grill.
I agree with the fishin idea.  Don't really have any reason for it, other that I would like to go out to just relax while fishing knowing that I have nothing else to prepare for.  I think that I myself am derbied out for a while. :)

I would be in for this though. ;D  But think it would be better served as being an early/mid July thing.  We had a little one last year that was a blast. ;D  I believe that the Freak won the smallest fish prize!! ;D

I think the one we had last Sunday was very very good and enjoyable as well as raising the $1040 for the betterment of the river.

As I said yesteday I would mention the derby at our meeting today with the Environment Minister, I think he too was impressed in what was done when I mentioned it to him. He knows there is lots of us that want to do the best we can to preserve our rivers and all the steelhead and other fish that live there.

Saying that, having one a year makes it all the more special and something to look forward too. As well I agree with reasons given by Rodney and others to make it an annual event.
