Second season into steelheading, trips after trips, miles driven to numerous destinations, cast after cast and frustration after another, i finally lifted the monkey off my back and landed my FIRST EVER steelhead!!
(Rod will post the pics for me soon.)
Started late today, drove from home in east vancouver to the vedder and that took me about an hour. So i started fishing at around Lickman rd, weather was ok, visibility was about 3 fts. Fished with roe sack, to no avail. About an hour into fishing i got a snag and eventually lost my gear. So i gave up on that spot and went to Fred's to pick up a few more DNE floats, and drove to the other side of the river near Peach rd.. Took a long walk along the river and finally found this promising run. To my surprise, there were quite a number of fishermen around.
thought i was one of the very few who has monday off. Oh well, i guess it's right that when the fish are here, the fishermen are here too. Picked my spot at the head of the run and fished with roe sack again and slowly walked my way down the river. another hour gone with no taker and i got a little frustrated. I walked back to the head of the run and saw guy across from me caught one on the fly, not sure if that was Chris or not.
I switched to pink worm and on the second cast behind the log, BAM, fish on! there the fish started the aerial show that i have never witnessed since i started fishing, and fought like no other salmon would match! After three rushes and few more jumps, i landed this beauty of my dream...
That was a total new experience for me, this precious piece of jewel gave me one heck of a fight that i would remember for a long time!
I am just hooked up for life now! Special thanks to the two young dudes in their dirt bikes who walked down to the river to help me land my fish and took pictures for me. Thanks!
