what's the fishing like up there? do you need to use downriggers? the lake looks like it's deep. if anyone has any info on fishing this lake it would helpful. thanks.

Downriggers, use plugs

Use either white or perch buzz bombs off any creek mouth, fish like you would for salmon... BIG dollies in there.

Or, anchor, and bottom fish using roe. I like going up there in August, when the kokanee spawn, quite the sight! The big dollies follow them in.

I understood that you drop big minnow patters via type 6 line down at the creek mouth at the far end for the monsters.

Yep, that's worked for me too... However it's a large lake, so you may want to consider some alternate methods as well...

Downrigger and Atomic plugs in pikeminnow and kokanee patters. I never went much past the first half of the lake and you catch them 80 ft down. Also as mentioned anchoring in about 80 ft near SW side using roe may work as well. Big lake lots of spots I never tried.

The old timers used herring cut plugs and trolled them...

Apprently it was so deadly that the technique was banned, I'm assuming as part of the no fish parts for fin fish except sturgeon regulation...

Years ago you could drive to the far end of the lake, I remember a stream running into the lake, with a forester camp sight. Have they cut the road off? Is there a boat-lunching ramp?

i think there is a launch at the provincal camp ground. i bet they are charging to use it now.

that road from what I heard was deactivated, and you can no longer camp there... That stream is the upper chilliwack, and is part of an ecological preserve, no fishing

No flasher in this case. Better to use a depth sounder and stay at 80/90 feet, downrig above bottom. watch your sounder for fish and make passes were there are signals, the usual. 4 to 6 inch plug. Not saying flashers don't work, they do, but if you don't need them !

Hanging lake is a very scenic lake at the end of the valley, worth the hike but smallish fish when we went there. Half the lake is in the US. Road was washed out some years back (Depot Creek)and I don't think they fixed it much after. Hefty hike but not too bad.
