Steelie on the Fly April 25th, 2007
« on: April 25, 2007, 07:36:20 PM »

Had to take the day off work to get some dental work done so as oppose to sitting at home with a frozen jaw I thought I'd venture up to the Vedder to try out my new spey setup complete with skagit line.  Got there about 12:30.

It was the first time fly fishing the Vedder and more than anything I was just there to practice my circle cast.  I fished behind a guy from the FishBC site who had already gone throught the run with a fly and was now going through it with his baitcaster with roe.  Wasn't expecting to hook up and didn't.  He left and and I fished awhile longer before taking off myself to find some water lower down the river.

The second spot I went to I met the same guy but this time he was on the other side of the river fly fishing with his single handed rod.  We got to talking and after a few casts at the end of a swing, I hooked up.  It didn't feel like a large fish.  I thought it might even be a good size dolly but it turned out to be a dime bright wild doe.  I played it in, figured it to be about 6 pounds, and released it. Should have taken a photo since it was my first Vedder steelie on the fly....oh well.

The water was in perfect condition....about 2 1/2 -3 feet of visibility.  It was a good afternoon all in all.  The only thing that will really round out the day is a Canuck victory.

You don't know the half of it....if my wife knew how out of control I've been getting, she'd probably have had the divorce papers drawn up by now.   LOL

I have a ton of fly tying materials but it's all for lakes and for salt water flies...don't have much for steelies but from what I've been told steelies aren't that particular so before I left itied up some popsicle patterns out of maribou and some large leech patterns tied out of seal.

I hooked the fish on a silver lead-eyed leech pattern which was tied up with 60% black seal blended with blue.  I tied in some blue crystal flash and peacock herl strands with it....pretty simple pattern but it did the trick.  Supposedly if they're  in the mood to hit, the fish will hit most patterns as long as it's presented properly.  This steelie hit near or at the end of the swing which is how the majority of fish are caught on skagit lines (which have sink tips).  You won't catch winter run fish on top with dries and rarly with floating lines.....you pretty have to put in front of the fish's nose on or near the bottom.

Hopefully this answers your question.  There's a few guys on this site who who I'm sure could  give you alot more info.

Haven't used my new camera as much as I should be...still really green with it and I still haven't tried to do anything with it on the computer.  I absolutely HATE reading  manuals!!!!  I need to have someone say, " Let me show you what do do, you USELESS TWIT!"

Any volunteers????

Which camera did you get? I hate mauals as well and just do things by trial and error. I have the Optio W20 and just learned things on my own. Took a bit but I have the hang of it now.

Same camera....one thing I need to do is load the software onto the computer.  But I haven't a clue once that's done how to get pictures from the hard drive to e-mails, websites, etc.   Pretty sad that a teacher doesn't know that stuff but in my defence, my degree is in Phys. Ed....I guess that shouldn't really be an excuse but I'm sticking with it.  LOL

Get a photobucket album which will make it easy to put pics on websites. To get it in an e-mail is even easier. Just click attach in your e-mail and click on the picture you want to attach. The software is easy to install. It does it all for you just need to follow the prompts. I love this camera. It takes a while to get the hang of the underwater feature but once you do it is well worth it.

you dont even need a software

i am pretty sure your camera is equipped with a usb cable

just chuck that in and you will have a new drive

the method is same like when you have a usb flash disk
