Went to Dragon lake with a large group. Had a great time and caught some big fish.

This fish is about 20inches. Did not take many pics but here is an idea on the quality of the fish in this lake. They were all footballs.



My biggest broke me off. I was using 6lb tippet and it broke it off clean. I was fighting it for about 5 mins and got it close to the boat and got to see it. She was easily 10lbs but was not out of gas and broke me off.

Quesnel, biggest landed out of the group of 60 of us was over 10lbs. My biggest landed was about 24inches.

Group of 60...wow! I wouldn't want to be the guy organizing that. I have a cabin around Lac La Hache and have often thought about Dragon but just didn't know anyone who had fished the lake. Sounds like you guys had a great time.

My suggestion to you is FISH IT!!! Either this time of year right now or early fall. Chronies or micro leeches under an indicator seemed to be the ticket.

Was fishing in that lake last fall, caught a few, and all on a willowleaf, and wedding band.
They are monsters, thats for sure, the first time I caught one, I was trolling, and would have sworn I was snagged, until I got a bit of head shake...monsters...

All the fly guys were out fishing the gear guys atleast 3-1.

I believe it, been at that lake a number of times over the last few years, and found although both work, flys can outperform on most lakes in the interior, at least for topwater and subsurface, but getting down deeper requires the gear on lakes like Sheridan, but to each his own, I use what ever works, and dont find my self too hooked to either method, just whatever it takes to catch a fish.
Should be hitting Watch lake this weekend, havent decided for the May long weekend, and Sheridan (yoohoo, any 20's out there??) for a nice extended stay in the first week of June...FISH_ON!!!!! ....Interior lakes rock

Flies can get down. Fishing chronies or micro leeches under an indicator gets them as far down as you want them to be. Matching the food source is the reason fly guys can usually out fish the gear guys. Once you find the fish and put your fly at the right depth its GAME ON!!!

Oh they probably can, but I dont have that kind of patience yet, maybe in another few years, didnt like float fishing when I was a kid either,
strike indicator/float its all the same to me. Gear just gets down quick and easy, some flashers and you're good to go, sorry just not much of a purist, and incidently, you may get'm on a fly, but it doesn't guarantee you'll get'em to you or the boat/floattube/pontoon, as far as that goes, I have seen more broken/snapped leaders on a fly rod than gear, but whatever floats your boat, trying to get them in on lightweight gear can be half the fun. How many took or snapped your leader before you got the one in the photo landed?

Lost one fish the entire 3 days I fished. Landed way more. Once you get the hang of things you can get them in and not lose them. I was using 6lb tippet and the one I lost was atleast 10lbs. I got him to the boat and was getting my net out thinking he was done. Well just as I go to scoop him up he takes a run and breaks me off.

To each their own. I used to troll the old willow leaf and wedding band ( untill about 5 year ago ) and now I have just grown as angler. I surrounded myself with friends that taught me very well. It made the transition so much easier. Anyone doing it alone would get frustrated quite easily.

On the subject of organizing large group for fishing, I'm trying to organize a group of 10 all in their 40's for a 2 day fishing/camping for the long weekend of May. We have 2 x 10' boat and a few belly boats. What would be the best lake to go for fishing within 2 or 3 hours of Vancouver? Catching some fish is important for the moral of this group. The only lake I know with some decent number of fish is Jones Lake, what is your thougt on that.

2 or 3 hours is tough. If you say 3 or 4 hours I can point you into some good lakes worth checking out.
