May 26 Chiliwack area bars
« on: May 27, 2007, 08:39:46 AM »

Venturer'd out early a.m. Sat.with my good friends Keith H and Eduardo S.Ed had never fished the Fraser so we were kinda offering him free lesson.Boat launch had a few vehicles at arrival but no crowds!Water is very high and it was hard to recognize a lot of the familiar stuff.Cruised over by Kilby to see the waters roaring together at the confluence.I had warned Ed in advance about Calamity point but it was just an interesting side trip with the water at this level though.
Tried an anchor at big fish bar but couldn't hold. When we tried to retrieve the anchor it snagged on some debris on the bottom and we could not free it.Jockeying around in the current proved much trickier than we thought it would since we were in the back eddy.Long story short, the anchor rope fouled and we had to cut it loose.
Spent couple hours exploring the side channels before we stopped at the top end of Pegleg.Right now just a small bar about to disappear with the rising freshet.Saw three
native boats drift netting but only saw them get one fish. They were not very friendly.I can't imagine why.saw a large seal as well. That's all i will say about the seal as I am afraid if I don't elaborate and expound in great biologically detail I could get fragged here.(I think it was silvery but don't quote me).Water extremely cold as all snow melt.No fish so once again my pen was left to dry out.
Going out Hope way at weeks end and will report then (no bear sighting will be included!)LOL  ;)

Fishing for springs.Bottom bouncing and bar rigging.Saw a couple other boats at the mouths of side channels,no luck for them also at least those I saw.Quite few bar fishers along the bank below Pegleg.Did not go ashore to talk to them so i do not know how they made out.

Are they not test fishing this year?
Usually, they have some numbers on how many fish are coming up by now.
