Police issue warning

Vancouver Sun

ABBOTSFORD - Police are warning residents to ensure their trucks and recreational vehicles are properly secured after discovering a list identifying the locations of various in-demand vehicles that was found inside a stolen vehicle stopped last week.

Police stopped a white BMW which had been stolen earlier but the driver escaped on foot.

Inside was a note pad with 150 Abbotsford residential addresses listing where trucks (F-350s), trailers, boats and other recreational vehicles could be found.

Police have identified the suspect and are searching for him.

"It's not uncommon during this time of the year for thieves to be looking for big-ticket summer items. We know there are people out there hiring thieves to steal these things. By exercising a few security measures you can significantly reduce your chances of having your summer disrupted by a thief," Const. Casey Vinet said in a media release.

He said owners shouldn't leave vehicles unsecured and recommended using heavy chains and hacksaw resistant padlocks as well as putting wheel-locks on trailers.

You hope they contact those people on the list!

People who buy these stolen goods are just as guilty as the people stealing them. >:(

There should be a serial no. list for stolen items so people can check what their buying is not stolen item, and hopefully by making stolen items hard to sale that will discourage people stealing.

The only list I'm aware of is the Police auction list of stolen goods. You have to pay for it. They like to sell stolen goods, actually police autions probably "fence" more goods than all the pawn shops on the lower mainland combined. Who's robbing who eh.

I thought driving a ford was security enough.  Afterall, the thief usually only gets a couple blocks before it breaks down ;D

Seriously, a little vigilance can go a long way.  People caught steeling vehicles/property should be forced to do some serious time.

Don't forget that alot of stolen rec vehicles end up being sold in Alberta and vis versa. This makes them harder to track. This is just what someone I know that had their quads stolen in Abby told me.
