Incorrect, pink salmon arrive in early August until early September. These photos were taken on August 7th, 2003. Note the silty colour of the main channel in the second photo.

Retention opportunities have not been announced and will only be decided when in-season run size estimates are done. For now, you can find the salmon regulations for the Squamish River at:

http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish/Freshwater/region2_e.htm

In-season regulation changes will be available on this website or at:

http://www-ops2.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/xnet/content/fns/index.cfm?pg=search_options&lang=en&id=recreational

Correct.  I was up there, just checked the journal, August 3 of 2003 and had a heck of a time keeping them off.  I think between the three of us for 5 hrs, we landed 75 Pinks.  2 of the people were total rookies that had never Salmon fished before.  They loved it, the Girlfriend was excited that she was able to catch 14 Pinks that day.  After a short hr or so, I actually stopped fishing to help them properly land and release their fish.  We were getting to many double headers and I was fighting fish while they were trying to get the hook out without dragging the fish up on the beach.  Took them forever to get the hook out, so much easier just for me to stand there and guide them along.  It was crazy, but also to easy, and I lost interest in it and haven't gone back since.  I actually like tossing spoons for the in the Fraser a lot more.  Much shorter drive as well. You know, since I am about 5 min from my fishing spot on the Fraser. ;D

Squamish pinks are much earlier than Fraser fish. August is the peak month with early September good as well. By mid month your pretty much into boots that should not be harrased. Pink regulations will be as follows: Cheakamus River = closed. Squamish / Mamquam closed but will be revaluated on run strength. If open, it will be one fish per day. Howe Sound pink retention will be reduced from 4 fish per day to 2 fish. These were the reccomendations put forward by the local Sport Fish Advisory Board and they are generally acted on by DFO.

As for flyfishing gear, a sink tip is what is needed. Water availability will depend on snow melt as there is still a huge amount of snow in the local hills

Sounds good overall.  Always a good fishery and best to go mid week if you can get the time off.
