My alternate identity on the forum is 'seymourvolunteering' and I'm the Volunteer Coordinator for the Seymour Hatchery. I've replaced the long-time coordinator James Weger. This is my second season at the hatchery and I'll be sticking around for at least the next little while until I go back to school.

I graduated from SFU with a B.Sc. in non-fish science stuff. I did however minor in Environmental Toxicology and that drew me into the world of fish. It stared with a paper I helped author that was published earlier this year. It investigated how pesticides impact the swimming ability of coho. From there I started my first season at the Seymour Hatchery but that ended this February.

After the hatchery I took a volunteer job in the Broughton Archipelago for 3 months. I helped research all the fish farm shenanigans that are happening up there (bad bad scene) and worked with Alexandra Morton and some other prominent researchers. A week after I was done that I was back at Seymour! It's what I've been doing since.

I don't fish but I've caught thousands of salmon! Not with a rod, but a seine net. I've been encouraged to start though. We'll see.

If I leave the hatchery in 2008 it'll be because I'll be heading back to school to do my Master's in ecological restoration.

I lived on the coast for years and learned the ropes of fishing for salmon and trout firstly from my dad and then more from my brother (10 years wiser and an expert angler as far as I'm concerned!) in the later years.  I now reside in Kelowna, which opens allot of doors in the way of great trout fishing, but I often make a "run" near the same time as the salmon do, to the tributaries of the Vancouver Coast.

I'm always looking for ideas on articles and stuff to add to my site, to make it as helpful as Fishing With Rod has been to me over the years, so If you have any ideas let me know!
