Need price on Bare Blackwater Breathable wader
« on: June 24, 2007, 09:26:22 PM »

In order to release stress from work( Chartered Accountant ), my nephew decided to acquire a new hobby. He chose fishing and is in need of some equipment. I've got all the rods and reels he can use but being 6' 1", he needed to get his own wader.

During my trip up today, I stopped by Hubs, Freds and another shop and the Blackwater Breathable is priced at a whopping $369.98. I bought one last year and I do not remember it being this high.

What would be a good price for a pair of Blackwater Breathable today and who would have the best price?

Why Blackwaters?  They are good, but there are plenty of real good waders out there for much better Prices.  I had the Blackwaters, they were ok, but now I have Simms Freestones.  They are lightweight and real comfortable.  Also a better Price at $219. :)

I just checked their website and the Freestone is $199.98(US) and the specs looks good. I think I will consider this brand.

I do believe that Bare is a local company and offers a lifetime warrenty on the seams. They are located in Langley which makes it really fast and easy if you need a repair unlike the others that are out of town or country and you need to pay shipping and handling. Just something to consider.

I have had my Blackwaters for a while now and I haven't had any problems yet ... I know there used to be a problem with them leaking at the crotch area, I believe they fixed that problem , I was told to buy a size bigger so that there was less strain when climbing .. they are quite expensive but they are extremely comforatable and I like the way they fit over the boots like pants !! Simms are also very good but if I had to buy another pair right now I would probably buy the Blackwaters again just for the fact that they are made locally !

I sent my Blackwaters in for repair in May and 6 weeks later I got them back.....the crotch was leaking bad...I felt like I wet myself with cold urine everytime I went out.......so I got them back....and I had a 25 dollar bill to pay..... :-\ oh well.....I'm never going back to Bare again...as I'm finding glory in Patagonia Products.....my next pair this fall will be Patagonias...as I'll be getting rid of the blackwaters.....
