Sheridan Lake - June 23-26
« on: June 29, 2007, 08:30:50 AM »

Headed to the Caribou for a few days of fishing on Sheridan Lake. Found a great cabin with all the luxuries of home+ for those that didn't feel like venturing onto the lake.

It took 2 days to find out what type of fly they were going for, but after that the action was pretty steady. The average size landed was between 2 to 3 lbs. Unfortunately, I only had 2 of the pattern that was working and something rather large snapped my leader as soon as it hit, 2x - the drag on line in the water was enough to do it as I was not applying any tension. Shortly after losing the two flies an 8 to 10lb'er jumped 20ft from my boat. Thankfully it was the last day the flies were lost - will definitely be back next year.

The trout that I kept (2), were both FULL of chronomids but for some reason I just couldn't get the colour combo right. The fly which was working was a brown and black micro leach - the body is black with some sparkle and the "tail" is a short brown. I got it from Ryan at Pacific Angler - he suggested it as he was there 2 weeks ago. Give them a call - I'm sure he can be more specific.

I have never been on a lake where there were so many active fish (jumping all day long). You are in for a great experience.

Awesome!! Thanks JustinG. I'll get out and get some of those right now! I'll post a report upon my (ahem), Triumphant Return. Last time up there, they were a jumpin' right out front of the cottage and I saw a fellow pull what looked between 8-10lbs. I only managed 1 small trout. Can't wait!!

Was up there at the same time as Justin and found thefishing a little tough.
My usual Flatfish and Hotshots trolled didnt work at all so i got out the fly rod and began to have some success.
Sure is a great vacation up there and looking forward to the next time allready.

I am heading up to the lake on Friday and hope to get some fishing in. I find that it is a tough lake but the fish are big and real feisty
