Finally I had the chance to fish my favorite river, this season. I had 2 separate trips cancelled earlier due to conditions and an unforeseen family event, so with much anticipation we headed up on Friday afternoon.
The weather was crappy and rainy but by Saturday morning, things were looking better. We opted for a cabin stay at the Upper Pitt Lodge which got us transportation from Pitt Lake and some pick up and drop offs along the Upper Pitt.
This is a look at the river Saturday morning:
Things started great. My first cast got me into a nice 2lb Dolly.
We got into a few fish throughout the morning, but it was tough going. I managed to get this fat guy around mid day:
The afternoon was dismal and we got skunked.
Sunday morning the river had dropped about 2 feet from the previous day and cleared quite a bit (notice how the little island is totally visible and under water in the first pic):
Canada Day was not a great celebration day for me as I casted until my arm fell off and got skunked! At one point I decided to head back up river a bit to try a tail out that look really promising earlier that morning and just before I arrived a jet boat charter showed up and walked right to the spot where they hooked into 4 fish right away. As I watched in horror the clown clients started horsing the fish in like you see on bass tournament shows, loosing every one of them.
Totally dejected I went back to the lodge and headed home
Although I didn't get into large numbers of fish, the scenery up there is amazing and hanging out at the cabin talking to other serious fly fisherman sharing experiences was a great experience.
