it finally arrived!
« on: July 03, 2007, 05:33:16 PM »

Well last week I made a rather pricey impulse buy off ebay without consultation with my better half, it was too good of a deal to pass up so I bought a new in box John Milner kingfisher bushing style centerpin reel for a tidy sum of 370 dollars including shipping. This put me in the dog house for a week, and I have temporarily lost my credit card privileges, but it was worth it! ;D this reel is a work of art and it spins forever! now I'm gonna be itching to get out and use it.

Nice CP Lucky! One warning on that color though, if that is the one you got. Watch out it tends to fade away.

I guess it depends on whose rod it is attached to, if I use it Im sure that it will see alot of fishy good times.

this is the first I've heard about colour fade. this reel shouldn't fade. The only Milner reel known to fade was some Talismans in green. This looks like the newer reels with the bronzing process? Bronzing, an extra step after anodizing is done to prevent the anodizing from scratching easily and fading. I'm not aware of another reel that uses this extra step so your reel maintains a decent finish over the years. But if this fading has happened with Kingfishers with serial numbers, like this reel in the photo, we would really love to hear more from you about it and help us correct this from happening on future batches.

Cheers,

Eric Milner

No worries, Lucky, the least I can do. I'm avoiding email duties actually  :)  But please, and this applies to everyone, if you have issues with your Milner reel(s), please get in contact! We've only done a couple batches in this new bronzing process and are assured by the anodizer that it's the kat's my friend for protecting alum in extreme environments and shouldn't be any problem in the gentle freshwater conditions that we use them.

Thanks for the serial # info. I'd love to hear what you think about the bearings after some usage if you're into it?

Cheers,

Big E , I purchased a Kingfisher Bearing CP last year, I happened to take a spill during Steelhead season and I marked it up a bit, actually took a tiny gouge out of it, is it possible to have it lathed out and refinished at all ?? I love the reel and the small mark hasn't affected the performance at all except I can feel a slight tick at it spins in my hand..  Thx

TrophyHunter, glad to hear it withstood the bash...but also sorry, that sucks. It can't be re-finished but it can be chucked up in the lathe. This will of course remove the remainder of the anodizing were we have to cut/polish. If you can live with that, it's an easy task. Just drop us an email at milner(at)talismanreels(dot)com
