Crab poachers
« on: July 07, 2007, 11:38:38 PM »

I took my family down to Ambleside pier to try to catch dogfish and show my little girl how it is.

But the group of people crabing next to us were just pissing me off.  They took crabs underside and females.  I tried 3 times going there telling them those are too small and females should be released.  Nothing...  They will pack them with newspaper and walk back to the cars...  Then again and again.  I finally had enough and after explaining to my little girl what wrong they did, I packed up and report them.  I did not wait around to see the DFO will come but the 24hours report line person I was talking to said someone will go there to check it out.

I hope those poachers will get a big expensive tickets...

On the bright side, got a large sole, 1 giant sunflower seastar, and a dogfish my little girl fought and the fish bite through the line right below the pier...

you know you can call the police, right? The RCMP can write tickets on behalf of conservation officers.

They don't usually come Nicole...  RCMP has better or worse case to attend and writing tickets for undersize crabs, over limited catches, etc is not as important as other matters...  I guess if there is nothing going on , then they would come...

Then they'll take you to jail instead... There's actually a charge for that when someone calls in a false emergency...

BUT you could say "this guy is keeping illegal crabs, and if you're not here in 10 minutes I'm going to kill him"

I think that would get them out there pretty quick, just make sure you're long gone, and use a payphone for gawdsakes ;)

Cheers,
