My family and I made a day trip up to Osoyoos from my cabin in Princeton. We went there to swim and enjoy the nice (HOT) weather. Well since I was going to a lake I brought my fly rod. I know there are bass in Osoyoos lake so I thought I'd try and catch some. Unfortunately, the spot where we went to swim did not look very promising to catch any bass, but I did see some very large carp cruising the shore. So I tried to catch them, I put my fly right in front of their mouths, but they didn’t even look at it . So I took my crapiest fly, cut most of the hair off of it, put a piece a bread on it, and tossed it to where the carp were. I saw the carp come up and suck it in…hook set! It wasn’t the greatest fighter but it did pull out quite a bit of line. I landed my first carp . I estimated it  to be around  8 pounds.  My fight with the carp scared off the rest so I did not bother to fish anymore and just swam. It was a fun day.

I camped there alot back a couple years ago, and like you said theres some nice size carp 10lb plus. I usually found alot of them hanging around the lily pads. Id toss a bunch of bread out to get them to all group up, then id toss my hook with bread out. Very fun fish to play with, big and easy to fool too. Only problem I found with catching them is battling the turtles that come and rob you, and a few times hooked themselves.

I also just got back from a one week trip to Osoyoos yesterday. With the hot weather most of our time was spend swimmming, tubing, waterskiiing, relaxing etc., but we did do a bit of fishing.

One evening we went bass fishing by boat at the North end and managed to catch a few. We were using tubes, and casting them towards the shore.

The kids fished from the campsite (at Inkaneep) most mornings and over the trip managed to land big carp, small perch, and some catfish. Last year they even caught a turtle! They used bait - whatever leftover food was handy!  

Some years we troll for rainbows, but didn't do that this year.

A good time was had by all.

I used to camp in Osoyoos anually and I always used to catch small perch at Shady Lagoon Campsite, as well as turtles with my hands .

What lake is your cabin on in the Princeton area?  I have a cabin up that way, too.  Maybe we can hook up one day.

osooyos lake has tons of carp, and quite a few bass. The north end is good and Kates point isn't that bad either. If ur fishing infront of the camp find some sort of structure. good luck, need any more info just email me.

Are you allowed to chum the water with bread while fishing? I have never lake fished and think this technique would be pretty useless in a river. Thanks for your replies..........

I've been told that chuming the water with any bait to atract fish is not permited, not sure though, check the regs, just in case.

I think your making it sound easier than it actually is. As some one who has successfully sight fished carp, I would put my catch rate at about one fish per weekend worth of work. Bottom fishing with bait is a much better technique IMO.
