Fraser Springs this weekend
« on: July 14, 2007, 03:28:48 PM »

Well so far we're having a pretty good weekend for Springs.

On Friday I caught a nice 15-lb red and my fishing partner hooked a 5' sturgeon that darn near snapped the rod holder off the boat. The sturgeon swam into and snagged itself on the rig and then peeled out so fast we both figured this was a grand daddy of a spring. It almost spooled his 7000 by the time we reacted and started the motor for the chase. One jump and we knew what the monster was. My buddy just thumbed the spool and pointed the rod tip to the sturgeon and popped the leader. After heavy use for 6 years, the drag washers of my buddies reel finally packed it in, or so we thought. After opening up his reel at home I found it loaded with brass shavings so that reel is toast until I can get him new gear and drag sets.

This morning was slow, slow, slow at our regular spot. After feeding those pesky needleheads, we made a move on a hunch that the springs were traveling through a different channel. Well they were. We were both rewarded within an hour of the move with what looked like 18-lb twins. These fish were almost identical. We were back home at 11:30am.

We'll be out to our new spot again tomorrow.

They're certainly out there but I got skunked today. My buddy tagged one about 20-lbs.
