Cat Lake - stilll good July 23rd, 2007
« on: July 24, 2007, 11:02:30 AM »

Just wanted to bring up a nice lake fishing alternative near Squamish that is still good and fun...
I fished for an hour and half at cat Lake last night spin casting from the shore which is kinda limited. Lots of action, mostly smaller bows but a few bigger ones. I had a couple of bites and lost one fish on blue fox spinner.
I am certain you would do well using a float tube and a fly. The bigger fish are in the middle of the lake.
Good time is after 7PM.

 >:( Yeah its unfortunate, its gonna be stupid resort with condos and all that other crap. LAME !!!! We have been going there for many years and have seen it in good times and bad. Used to have only the one day area and it was provincial. Now its private, soon its gone. All those tourists are going to foul it up worse than the Squampton locals. Too bad.........

Enjoy it while it lasts , by far one of the best swimming lakes in the LM vicinity.

Yes, it is too bad. Currently, there is a development bonanza happening up here. I sure hope they do not go over board.
There are enough golf courses already...
But there are a number of other nice lakes around that are still good and remote enough...
Anyone ever fished Mamquam Lake in Garibaldi Park? I hear there are some big rainbows in there....

thats bull, why don't they just build another one in d'arcy or something? that is building into almost completely wild land, they're gonna probably ruin the local ecosystem that has been going on before people even set eyes upon that land, it makes me sad to see people building and not letting mother nature bounce back

@ coryandtrevor...
not sure if you know me.  ;) I am in Squish and like to get out. Wanted to make it to Mamquam last year but didn't happen.
I might also check out Indian River (from Squish) in the next weeks on the MTB ...

hickman, i live up in whistler but hit the squamish, cheakamus, and mamquam alot if you  want people to fish with. Im on the river all the time when salmon season starts and love to fish for bullies in the winter.

hi Dereke...
I am still trying  stuff out as I am rather new to salmon fishing. I usually stay local - Mamquam, Cheak or Squamish.
Sounds like there are some chinooks and pink in the system now. Might try it out tonite.

Couple times, there are some OK size fish when we went. You may want to bring some Buzz Bombs as they worked like stink for me there. I had schools of fish chasing the bomb right up to my legs while I stood in the water. Also leave it for late August as the creeks are easier to cross that come from the nearby glacier, that can shrivel severely. nice camping at the lake.
