Fraser Sockeye and Chinook
« on: July 26, 2007, 09:11:45 PM »

Once again it looks like we are looking at a reduced return of chinook and sockeye to the Fraser. The Early Stuart has been downgraded to only 11,000 fish and the early summer runs are not showing well either. Chinook appear to be down considerably and I feel could be in real trouble. Reports of no fish or very few fish on some streams doesn't sit well for the future of our stocks.   What ever happened to conservation strategies to protect these fish for the future? It appears that there is a race by all sectors , native, lodges, commercial and fresh water angles to see who can catch the last salmon. Can you say "Atlantic Cod". It's hard to believe that in one short life time, as a species ,we could destroy a resource due to sheer greed.
