Upper Vedder RED HOT !! July 28th, 2007
« on: July 29, 2007, 12:57:19 AM »

Took the family for a look see and checked out the usual haunts all the way up to the limit. Saw tons of fish, lots being taken.

Kinda curious why no public reports here ???

Any how go get them!

Mega bottom bouncers out today though :(

My 2 cents... short float the Vedder guys...
leave the BBing for the Sockeye run.

Ya I know... its just meat.
good luck whatever your discipline.

I do not know where you were but I did not see the same. I was fishing the vedder for 2 and a half days and only managed on fish. Its been slow everywhere I went with most other fishers I talked to reporting the same, nothing. The only fish I saw taken were the ones pounded by betties up at limit hole.  :-\

Fished lower section today and the water was just perfect. Visibility of about 3 feet but no fish to be seen. Caught a few trout. Apparently, sockeye was around a few days ago but nothing today.

I think the Red Spring has moved on.

Anyone who says the vedder is red hot must be smoking something...bug pumper and I fished it saturday and didnt see anything except for one hole with 7 guys in it and 2 fish on the beach...we worked a lot of good water with roe, prawns and blades and saw no signs of life.

I have spent three days out there, and until yesterday afternoon, the most I saw was 2 springs porpoise.  Those 2 I worked on for a good couple hrs, threw everthing in the vest at them and couldn't get them to hit anything.  They must have porpoised about 10 times right in front of me and wouldn't touch anything.  Everyone I talked to was saying them same thing, they had rarely seen one and hadn't hit one themselves.  Seems like they are all shooting their way to the top and being harrased at limit hole.  A place I for some reason won't fish. ;)

I was there in upper section on Saturday to check out things. About 100 fish in hatchery and 2 fish (looking red & dark) caught in a popular run. I will stay with the Fraser.  ;D

SH, did you fish that run or just pass thru it?  Bug pumper and I were in that area and I too saw 2 fish on the beach....the only sign I have seen all season.

Oh well thats fishing!
But to be clear when I was at the upper river they were doing well. I guess that I was lucky in my timing, should have brought my rod ::)

The fellas at the very top (limit) did say they were doing well all day... top end of the hole and far side. There were a lot of bottom bouncers out there though.

Speaking of which... hey Gooey are you still casting and selling those bouncing betties, or given your  ethical anti BBing preachings have you decided to put that away? ;D

Free advertising for you Gooey! You owe me a couple of betties!

#1 - I am not against flossing a few socks when they are open...so...
#2 - yes I still sell betties

I don't know what you consider hot fishing...a bunch of beaks flossing springs that wont bite isnt what I call hot...what exactly did you see (ie number of fishers, number of fish hooked/on the beach, and method)...thanks

I would have to agree. The only fish I have heard of over the last several days were not biting but flossed at limit hole.

That spot is a complete joke!

We talked to several people on the river on Saturday and spoke with several of the stores up and down the river and the tackle shops....no fish were being caught.

the middle of the week was a different story.

the clarity up above is good and the level is coming down a bit, but they are just not interested in roe, wool, spoons, anything for that matter right now. Just like DMW said, you can see them, but they are not interested at all.

Hopefully this changes for everyones sanity sake soon.

saying it was hot is merely a bogus ploy to flood the river right now with over anxious people to waste their time in hopes of hooking one.

Funny, Rick and I were up there today, (sunday) we found a spot away from the gong show and Rick hooked and lost two...one was a big mother, also got a decent sized trout...(all on the upper) I got one stinking trout...After a bit some fool in a Calloway hat showed up and bothered us no end...so we left for the lower river and spent the last four hours of our day spey flossing and fly tossing....Rick got into some more trout on his new fly set up and I managed to hook a couple really nice logs on the other side of the river...To be honest...it's was the best fight I've had in weeks so quite enjoyed that... All in all a pretty good day..

100 fish in the hatchery doesn't seem like a whole lot for it to be that hot and heavy a week ago.  How many springs does the hatchery typically get?

So far on here guys have said they were at the hatchery and saw 300, 200 and 100 fish in...I was up there two weeks ago and there were 3 fish in the hatchery at the gate by the bridge.
This isn't a huge run by any means so I wouldn't doubt if it was over or close to it...

The Reds come through all summer. There aren't many of them after the end of July, but you can still catch em anywhere in the river right until Labour Day Weekend, and some of them are in very nice shape...
As for right now, probably half of the run are already through the system.

I find this years red run to be better than last years. I love how everyone is saying aww theres no fish ;D  ;D The reds are not like your white springs! If you find the water and put in time you WILL be rewarded! ;)
