What species of salmon is this?

Just read about it on the web. There are big runs of this Salmon in northeast china and eastern russia, but i have never seen any of this in BC?

Looks like a brown trout.  they do run to the sea and back in some places (even in BC but there is only one river I have heard of).

If they are a Pacific salmon then they would be a masu.  it's the only Pacific salmon that that doesn't have spawning grounds in North America's west coast.

I heard of a Masu salmon taken in the Cowichan River one time-must have had his wires crossed. :o

Being originally from the east coast and having caught many... that is was I thought as well. In full spawn though.

I know my fish, I have caught atlantics in spawning colours.


But just google "atlantic salmon " and click images that pic is on the first page that comes up.

I googled "fish in China" and came up with this rather unwholesome looking pair.



I think I'd pass on a meal like that. They probably are good though, chewy but tasty.

Another vote for Atlantics. Masu while spawning turn black with a orange tiger stripe similar to the purple ones chums get.
