allouette Lake - great fun July 28th, 2007

Set out on Saturday, noticed at least 4 guys trawling, I assume spinners around the boat launch on the other side of the lake, didnt see any hits though. I cruised upto a sweet spot with a river inlet, anyhow I had the kids with me ( first boat trip ever - 3 years old) used power baid and sliding rig..

I dont know what fish it is, but it has a yellow tint and yellow fins and get to about 30cm or so, But man are they agressive feeders, caught 6 in about 1 hour or so. the kids loved it. No trout though.

anyone know what fish there is in Alloette lake... and what are the guys trawling?

sound like a pikeminnow, there are lots in that lake, the trollers are fishing for kokanee and trout, usually with a gangtroll and a wedding band spinner or small spoon. With the warmer water the kokanee are a little deeper, most of the fish we marked a couple weeks ago were around 75 feet deep.

those would be catfish, there are tonnes in gold creek, you can see them swimming around in he summer

I'd say you have your info wrong there. Lucky sounds like he's on the ball with the Pike Minnows.

I know there are Pikeminnows that hangout in and near Gold Creek.
We would go there for the day to swim and hangout when i was a little younger ::)
The first time i went down with a mask on i couldnt believe how close you can get to the fish but i was more than a little disapointed when i seen the dreaded Pikeminnow and not a Trout of some kind. ;D

The formula is:

Summer + creek mouth into lake = pikeminnow

Bullhead may enter the equation.
Alpine lakes don't apply.
I bet he was catching pikey

Thanx for all the info guys, im heading out that way again this weekend ( if the sox dont open)... I checked FWR and it seems it is pike minnow. They still agressive feeders and fight good on light tackle, and greatfun to intro kids to fishing.

They are either mountain or bridgelip suckers. That is if they had big sucker like mouths. They are in there by the hundreds.
