Vedder River for Springs but caught a surprise!
« on: August 22, 2007, 07:25:21 PM »

Fished the Vedder river Today and started at the limit hole. I was there for only half an hour and moved down ( couldn't handle watching all the bottom bouncers with six to eight foot leaders snag fish) Walked down river a ways and noticed some fish rising in a nice pool above what we use to call the ranger run.So I made my way down and first cast mid way through my drift a fish came up and took my float, second cast same spot same thing, Third cast this time the float goes down and my centrepin was screaming line after about a ten minute fight I landed a beautiful 6 - 8lbs Dolly. I quickly thanked her for the fight and sent her back home.I then hooked 7 springs landing only 2 but nothing worth keeping. All in all a great day on the river. All fish were caught using roe bags! Tight lines

Just a word to the wise Brothersage,  next time on your report,  keep that descriptive info to yourself ,as if you do some research on here youll see the power of the internet,  Look back at the first Cates Park report then look what happened soon after someone said Pinks are there, and if you had a problem with those brutal snaggers at the limit, then im sure some of them may read this report and do the same at that run....

Agreed.

just a thought but if he had reported went fishing landed a beauty dolly hooked into 7 springs and landed two wouldn't you want to know where he was?

I don't see anything wrong with your report brothersage sounds like a great day of fishing.

Cammer is right, I have looked in on that hole many times and seen 5-7 fishers jammed in it.  His luck in finding it empty I believe is largely due to the lateness in the season but in general, if I find a a good spot usually no more than 2 or 3 close fishing buddies find out.  No need to attract additional attention.

Let me ask you this EZ, do you know WHY that area is good?  I know the run he is referring to and its a nice even flow...not too heavy...nice sized gravel...not to big...hmmm, lots of colored fish....even a dolley...do you know why there lots of fish there yet?  Sounds like a great spot to SPAWN if you ask me...really there is ZERO need to advertise that success on the internet...cam is right, snaggers who dont give a dam will go down and harass those fish that should now be left alone.

PS - if a fisher always looks for the reported hot spots, how will he ever learn to identify those great spots himself???

I totally agree with you guys. It is great to report your success but if you post exactly where you where trust me unless you camp out at the spot you will never get in there again. The power of the internet ruins more fishing spots then ever before. Also at this time of year people should really be leaving the springs alone. Let them do their job and spawn. Just think of it this way. Do you really want to be interupted when you are doing your thing  ;D ;D. They only get one chance and then they die how would you feel  ;D .

I wonder what's the point of this fishing reports section if the advice is to keep your mouth shut about your trip. :( Stop the paranoia,  or we'll start to look like the guys from WCBA that "went fishing to lake X", etc. BB'ers, snaggers and poachers would be BBers, snaggers and poachers no matter what, they don't need information on specific spots, they'll do it anyway, everywhere, everytime.

On the other hand, isn't it a beneficial to post a report on his fishing success as well as areas where compliance is lacking? It brings awareness to the readers and hopefully more will phone in and report to boost up enforcement. It comes down to whether you want to look at this positively or negatively.

Thanks for reporting Brothersage. Like you said, those red chinooks have past their eating prime so I will wait until fall when coho salmon arrive, hopefully. A fun day nevertheless.

No on says keep your mouth shut!  ???

" BB'ers, snaggers and poachers would be BBers, snaggers and poachers no matter what, they don't need information on specific spots, they'll do it anyway, everywhere, everytime."

If they dont need the information THEN WHY GIVE IT TO THEM!!!  You totally contradict yourself  ::)

I am not against sharing things like water conditions, hot bait, a tip to help someone along, a nice pic which everyone appreciates...what ever.  I just don't think you need to draw attention to a specific spot especially late in the season when it probably contains spawners.

But then again, I don't need to be told what rock to stand on in order to catch a fish  ;)

Hey no one said keep your mouth shut. I really don't care if anyone wants to post exactly where they caught their fish. All we where trying to do is give a little advice if they want to fish that area again without a huge crowd around. But hey if you like to fish with a crowd then go ahead but you will never see me posting exactly where I fish unless I am at a lake. I will give just enough info that is needed and a pic.

Sorry for totally highjacking your report BrotherSage but...

My thought is if there are lots of good reports on several areas it will spread the "bad" fishermen out where there is a possibility they could pick up some 'good" fishing practices if you have all the "bad" fishermen in one area they can only learn from one another and then the plague will spread.

If guys took the time to talk to some of these so call "bad" fishermen you may see all they want to do is catch fish and they learn from what they see ...

So ya go ahead and stick your head in the sand then complain about the "bad" fishermen on the internet.

the complaining and griping on this forum is getting out of hand.

Wanna be a moderator? ;)

This has been debated many times by the same people. Stop hijacking the report, if there is a concern by you, please send it privately to the reporter. Otherwise, let it go because there are no guidelines on the report section that stop people posting what Brothersage posted.

Maybe we need to turn the report section into a subscriber only section.

I agree in my limited experience. The Vedder is not a secret.
