One person fishing 2 rods in Tidal Fraser
« on: August 28, 2007, 08:29:46 PM »

Looking in the saltwater regs, its says there is not limit on how many rods one person uses, so I would expect that applies to the tidal Fraser and I can have a sturgeon rod out while fishing spinning or fly fishing pinks, right?  Or could have more than one Sturgeon rod out.  Just making sure Im reading this right.  Thanks

Thanks

While you can use as many rods as you would like in saltwater, the Tidal Fraser River is an exception. Please see:

http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish/Tidal/area29_e.htm#Fraser%20River-Pitt%20River%20Tidal%20Waters

Quote
It is prohibited to use more than one line when sport fishing in the tidal waters of the Fraser River. While only one line per angler may be used, gear designed to catch a maximum of two fish at one time (bar rig) is permitted in this area, provided that two single barbless hooks are being used.

So, only one rod maybe used at any given time.

its no wonder dfo can't get their sh-t together. that reg is not indicated in the bc tidal waters sport fishing guide....besides its written in small print at the bottom of that web page.

that reg won't hold water in court....especially when it indicates the opposite in the official 2007-2009 fishing guide (under Limits And Management Measures:  subheadings - Salmon / Finfish (Other than Salmon)....p.10 and p.17.  i don't even see a footnote or special clause to make room for exceptions.  at least not under area 29 nor the tidal waters of the Fraser. ???

Good thing this came up as I was thinking about running a bar-rig setup while fishing for Pinks as well.

I don't think that it would hold up in court either as the reg appears to be only posted on the web and some people don't have access to the web.
