Vedder River 9/14
« on: September 14, 2007, 04:46:13 PM »

Water level is low and its crystal clear....there are lots of pink and just few bites only in the early morning.  I don't have luck for the Coho, will try again next week.   By the way, can someone tell me the best colour of yarn for the COHO???

I prefer as close to natural roe as possible for Gin-clear water.  I also downsize alot.  Flouro carbon 8# leader and size 2, 3 or 4 octopus hooks.

The coho sometimes like red, pink, peach, white, chartreuse or a combination of some or all. Some say these colours imitate single eggs or roe. A light pink could imitate a shrimp.  Also try types of green or yellow that can cause the coho to strike out of anger. This time of year make sure your leader # test is as low as you are comfortable with. Try using very small pieces of wool like the size of your pinky finger nail. Good Luck.

When fishing roe, I always had the best luck with chartreuse over orange, or white over kelly green...

Good Luck!

You can if you want.  Sometimes it will help "cushion" the line at the bait loop so it won't cut through your roe so quickly.  I don't think it helps or hurts your presentation untill the roe is nearly gone and all you're left with is an egg or 2 and the skein.  Then the wool will give it a little color.

Have you ever try the artificial roe that you can purchase from tackle store.   The real roe is too fishy and leave the smell on my finger for the whole day!! :o
